Not A Fan: Knowing vs. REALLY Knowing God

slide title NOT A FAN.png

When you hear that God, the creator of the universe, knows you and wants to be known by you:

does that freak you out or draw you in?

Read Luke 7: 36-50

God knows you intimately.

God wants you to know Him intimately.

Fans choose knowledge, followers embrace intimacy.

Simon, who is the Pharisee from the story in Luke, had knowledge of Scripture, but didn’t embrace intimacy. He offered Jesus a meal in hopes that he would gain a little more knowledge from a really good teacher. The woman in the story who is the “sinner”, however, knows who Jesus is and desperately wants to know him more. Fighting through the fear that Jesus already knows her and her sins, she throws herself at his feet and weeps.

O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.
Psalm 139

Are you seeking Jesus to gain more knowledge for yourself or are you wanting to know him more intimately?

Are you a FAN or are you a FOLLOWER?
